Call to Worship Leader: God announces, “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!” People: According to the will of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we listen to the Lord of Light. Leader: Alleluia! Christ leads us to the mountaintop. People: The Messiah guides us with Illumination. Alleluia! By your glory transfigure us to serve you always, including by helping the needy. In your name we pray. Amen. Prayer of Confession We praise you, Christ, for transforming us through your death and resurrection. Even so, we insist on sin. We want to hide in glory-moments instead of taking up the cross. We follow cleverly devised myths. We plot in vain. We say that you are our king and then ignore your commands and promises. You shine your light on us, and we scurry into the darkness. We fail to listen to you. By your cross, forgive us. Remake us. Please. Yes. Words of Assurance Leader: Alleluia! People: Alleluia! Leader: Alleluia! Christ the descendent of David, king of Israel, forgives us our sins. People: Alleluia! Prayer of Inspiration Sacred Wind, guide us through the Word from the mountain to the plain. Call to Worship Leader: God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we serve, not two masters, People: but you alone. Leader: We strive first for your kingdom, not fixating on food, clothes, and drink. Prayer of Confession You never forget us, Lord, and you are ever our salvation and hope. Even so, we often forget you or put you in second place. We choose the pursuit of stuff, money, fame, thinness, strength, sexiness, and pleasure over you. We get full of ourselves and think we can figure you out or control you like a genie. We are addicted to worry, convinced that worrying means having control. We obsess over clothes, food, and drink and end up with naked, starving, dehydrated souls. Jesus, by your name, forgive us. Help us to strive in the moment for what really matters. Please. Words of Assurance Yes!
