Proper 6

Third Sunday after Pentecost, Year B

Call to Worship

Leader: Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, lead us by the hand.

People: Teach us cross-shaped love.

Leader: Cultivate us, water us, make us grow.

People: Raise us to bear fruit. Yes!

Invocation

Abba, we exalt you for the seeds you sow and the growth you produce. Show us, in the name of Jesus, how to be better farmers for you. By the Spirit’s power we pray. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Repeatedly have we sinned against you, Mercy-God. We persist in regarding others from a human point of view instead of from a Christ point of view. We insist on allowing ourselves to wither instead of flourish. We try to live on and produce hatred, bitterness, prejudice, and self-righteousness instead of living on and producing your love. We wither, rooted in selfishness. We lack confidence in you and so dry up.

For the sake of Christ, forgive us, revive us. Rain on us. Yes.

Words of Assurance

Alleluia, because of Christ, God forgives you all of your sins. You are alive. Flourish! Alleluia!

Prayer of Inspiration

Holy Spirit, through the sermon, fertilize our confidence.

Prayers of the People

Daddy, we thank you for fathers and other father-figures. May we always honor them, and may they ever be caring, compassionate, and responsible parents. Source of Confidence, (congregational response: you make us new.).

We are ever grateful for the Church, future, past, and present. We are quick to grow discouraged. Continue to encourage us, assuring us that, because of you, the Church will always yield extraordinary crops. Source of Confidence, . . .

Ima, we thank you for our nation, the United States. Persist in teaching us the wisdom to value caring for the needy over subduing our enemies. Source of Confidence, . . .

God of cornucopious life, summer is almost here. Yes. We love it! Keep us safe from heat and other dangerous weather. Guide us to use vacation time as sabbath time. Source of Confidence, . . .

The healing you show us is astounding. Heal those in need [Add names}, and continue to train us to assist you in the healing. Source of Confidence, . . .

You may add other praises and petitions here.

You hear us, you make us flourish. We know it! In the name of Christ we praise. Amen.

Offertory Prayer

May these gifts help to feed the hungry.

Benediction

Leader: We leave the service to be bread for the world

People: in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Yes!

Proper 5

Second Sunday after Pentecost, Year B

People: God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,

Leader: teach us to live according to the one true Spirit, never a house divided.

People: We are all family members through Christ.

Invocation

Holy Spirit, strengthen our resolve against slithering Satan. Let us never lose heart, and humble us to live as the family we are. In the name of our Sibling Savior we pray according to the will of the Eternal Parent. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Leader: Out of the depths we cry to you, O LORD. If you were to keep count of our sins, we wouldn’t stand a chance.

People: In our fallen confusion, we are hasty to praise Beelzebul and reject the Holy Spirit.

Leader: Trying to be equal to you, we listen to serpent-lies.

People: We are quick to lose heart, thinking that these are the worst of times, hopeless.

Leader: We slip into sibling rivalry and dysfunction with our fellow Christians.

People: For the sake of Christ, redeem us.

Leader: Yes. Amen.

Words of Assurance

With the LORD there is plenteous redemption. Morning has arrived. Because of Christ, God forgives you all your sins. You shall live in Paradise. Hallelujah!

Prayer of Inspiration

Spirit of Christ, through the Word, lead us to live the God-union.

Prayers of the People

We exalt you, God, for blessing the Church, for protecting us against the Lord of the Flies. Continue to tutor us on how to reject Satan and not turn on each other. Our souls (congregational response: confidently watch for you.).

We thank you for the apostle Barnabus and other Church pioneers, including the Cappadocians and Macrina. Help us to be pioneers of love according to your will. Our souls, . . .

You have blessed us with a rich flag representing a nation devoted to freedom and to helping others. May we honor the flag, not making an idol of it, but regarding it as a symbol of our nation’s holiest ideals. Our souls, . . .

You are generous with healing. Touch everyone in need [Add names], and direct our hands to serve our siblings. Our souls, . . .

You may add other praises and petitions here.

The Holy Trinity, Year B

Call to Worship

Leader: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;

People: the whole earth is full of God’s glory.

Leader: Mother of All, Three-in-One, Father, Son, and Spirit, you create, save, and sanctify us.

People: Glory!

Leader: You are in community with yourself and us. You teach us to be in community with you, each other, and the self.

People: Here we are; send us. Yes.

Invocation

God, by the Spirit, humble and embolden us to believe in Christ, to love as the Trinity has loved. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Leader: Triune Elohim, we sin. You summon us to be born anew every day, yet we often choose death. We study you in the dark, afraid to proclaim you in the light. We tend to serve the flesh, not the Spirit, and when we try not to serve the flesh, we often shame the body, missing the point.

People: Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a person of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen you, Three-One, the LORD of hosts!

Leader: Forgive us by Christ. Amen.

Words of Assurance

Alleluia, now that Messiah has touched you, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out. Alleluia!

Prayer of Inspiration

Ruach, through the Word, lead us to rebirth, to the light of God.

Prayers of the People

That we may live out the Oneness that you have fashioned us to be, we pray (Congregational response: hear us, Triune Yahweh.).

Full of reverence for Native American leaders such as Seattle, we pray . . .

That our graduates may savor their accomplishments and feast on your goodness in the future, we pray . . .

That you may heal all those in need [Add names], and that you may grant us the courage and creativity to help with the healing, we pray. . .

May 27, 2012

Day of Pentecost, Year B

Call to Worship

Leader: By the love of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the Paraclete has descended upon you.

People: We are full of the Spirit, brimming with power, unstoppable.

Leader: The Holy Spirit enables us to speak the Good News all over the world.

People: The Spirit helps us in our weakness, inspires us. Alleluia. Yes!

Invocation

Advocate, refine us with your holy fire, that we may overcome the world’s babble with your harmony. In the name of Christ we pray. Alleluia. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

God, we sin. We discriminate against people different from ourselves and thus become stingy with the Good News. We think all is lost, that we are dry bones, that there is no hope. We neglect to care for creation, even though you are redeeming it. The Advocate guides us into truth, but we prefer lies and denial. We think that the Spirit has favorites instead of recognizing that the Spirit does not discriminate.

For the sake of the Ascended Messiah, forgive us. Amen.

Words of Assurance

Alleluia! By the blood of the Risen Son, God forgives your sins. Share the Good News. Alleluia!

Prayer of Inspiration

Ruach, through the Word, revive us. Please. Yes.

Prayers of the People

Wisdom-God, we praise you for the Ten Commandments and all the teachings you give us. Straighten us to follow your teachings, to embrace wisdom. Holy Spirit, (congregational response: thank you for interceding for us.).

Sophia-Mother, we exalt you for providing breath for the Church. We are grateful for hymnwriters and martyrs. We are thankful for reforming leaders such as Pope John XXIII. We meditate with joy upon Mary’s visitation with Elizabeth. Holy Spirit, . . .

Abba, you have blessed us with a great nation and even greater universe. Lead us to be responsible caretakers of your creation. Holy Spirit, . . .

Ima, we give thanks for our veterans, especially those who have gone on to glory [Add names]. Continue to inspire, encourage, and challenge us through them. Embolden us to take better care of our living veterans. Holy Spirit, . . .

The healing you pour on us, God, is astounding. Bless everyone in need, including those we mention in our hearts or out loud. [Add names.] Holy Spirit, . . .

You may add other praises and petitions here.

We know you hear us, for we pray in the name of Jesus. Alleluia. Amen.

Offertory Prayer

Use our offering for those in need.

Benediction

Leader: God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, has freed you to speak the Good News to everyone.

People: We leave to share hope with all. Yes. Alleluia!

May 20, 2012

Seventh Sunday of Easter, Year B

Call to Worship

Leader: Alleluia, Christ is risen and ascended!

People: Thanks be to God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Leader: God has made us one and longs for us to live out that oneness.

People: May we follow God’s yearning as part of celebrating the resurrection. Alleluia!

Invocation

Unifying God, you sent the Son to make your name known to us. Although Christ is ascended, the Savior is still within and among us, pulling us together. Continue to theo-synchronize us to your will. By the power of the Paraclete way pray in the name of the Son. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

O God, our sins are legion. We are not rooted in you. We do not allow you to water us. As a result, we are chaff which the wind blows away. We call you a liar by not believing in you. We think we can have life without you. We allow issues such as gay marriage to rip us apart. In our disagreements, we become vicious, more worldly than Wordly.

For the sake of the Ascended One, forgive us. Make us bear fruit. Please. Yes.

Words of Assurance

Hallelujah! Christ has died and is risen, ascended. Through the Savior’s blood, all your sins are forgiven, no exceptions. Let’s bear fruit worthy of repentance. Hallelujah!

Prayer of Inspiration

Advocate, by the Word, teach us anew that we are one with each other through the Ascended God.

Prayers of the People

God of Matthias, you continue to provide leadership among the communion of saints. We are grateful for teachers such as Helena, the mother of Constantine. Lead us to heal dysfunction so that we can live out the Holy Unity. Ascension Adonai, (congregational response: hear our prayer.).

Supreme Scientist, we find amazing the work of us human scientists. We praise you for thinkers such as Copernicus and Euler. Fill us with the wisdom to understand that science and theology are more allies than antagonists. Ascension Adonai, . . .

Mother of Diversity, we are grateful for the LGBT community. Lead us to expand our inclusion of members of this community in the Church. Ascension Adonai, . . .

Theo-peutic Elohim, how you heal us! Bless everyone in need, including each individual we mention in our hearts or out loud [Add names.]. Always inspire us to assist with the healing. Ascension Adonai, . . .

You may add other praises and petitions here.

We entrust these prayers to you, Ima-Abba, in the name of Christ, the great high priest. Amen.

Offertory Prayer

We bear fruit and offer it to you, the provider of it. Yes.

Benediction

Leader: Through the ascended Christ, we are one, just as the Father, Son, and Spirit are one.

People: All week long, we abide with each other through you, O God, bearing fruit. Alleluia!
