Submit Your Own! HOLY WEEK POEM By David von Schlichten HOLY WEEK VILLANELLE
Because of Christ, the Hope has been restored. Were you there when they waved the palms, and then “Were you there when they crucified my Lord?”
We’re quick to gripe, forever keeping score. We’re called to bring our vengeance to an end. Because of Christ, the Hope has been restored.
In this rough world, we’re quickly worn, hurt, bored, But God heals us by teaching us again, “Were you there when they crucified my Lord?”
Our drama fix leaves us depleted, gored. Our hope bleeds as we lash at family, friends. Because of Christ, the Hope has been restored.
We think the key to joy is to buy, hoard. We stuff our homes, forgetting what will mend: “Were you there when they crucified my Lord?”
The Good News from God is deep in our core Shaped by the Trinity-and-human-blend. Because of Christ, the Hope has been restored! We were there when they crucified our Lord! SONGWOMAN! By David von Schlichten SongWoman!

Squirrel Eschatology By David von Schlichten Squirrel Eschatology
Silver bullet streaks From tree to tree, furry blur Making my heart wag. Call for a Feminist Renaissance By David von Schlichten Call for a Feminist Renaissance
It is more of an f-word than the f-word. “I’m not a feminist . . . ” people insist.
Men joke on the couch about sexual harassment While watching the game, beer ads using bikinis to sell.
“Oh, we’re post-feminism,” I’ve heard “intellectuals” say, As if we’ve matured beyond that “hysterical” movement.
My teen daughter receives photos of penises – new flirting? – Models walk skinny and pale like prison-camp victims,
And men and boys react to self-loathing and fear In classic male fashion: shooting the innocent to death. Resignation-Lament By David von Schlichten Resignation-Lament
I’ve tried better preaching, But that’s not it.
I’ve tried better music, But that’s not it.
The church in the next town is booming. They have it, whatever “it” is.
Feedback is hard to come by. Parishioners just hand me words like “nice.”
I don’t know. I hate not knowing. I’m tired of trying, guessing, failing.
God, I quit. Find someone else To be faithful but not successful. 1 2 [Next] [Last Page] Return |
